Ideas for Final Major Project

Brainstorming further into what direction to take my project, I have a few more ideas to go with:

1. As an opportunity to develop my skills in branding, my dad is starting his own kitchen design business which will need the whole branding package; logo, business card, letterhead, compliments slip and possibly website.

This is a great idea with a solid idea as to the outcomes I could produce which is quite the opposite of my first idea of Flow typography. However possibly with this I’m jumping too far ahead and letting the outcomes control my choice?

2. As an opportunity to develop my skills in packaging design: When I was sat in McDonald’s recently, I realised it was completely full of children. And I wondered why aren’t these children being given a healthier choice of lullnch. I wondered whether it was because of the convenience of fast food, or maybe a time issue, or even a quick fix for fussy children. And from this I decided I could take on the challenge of creating a way of keeping these children away from unhealthy fast food. I decided I would try to create a lunch time alternative for parents to offer their child, in the form or a supermarket pick and mix item selection that would interest the interaction of the child and make the process of choosing a lot easier for the parent. I’d use persuasive packaging to entice the children to believe that this is a great choice, just as McDonald’s do with their ‘Happy Meal’. The items could then be placed into an eco friendly lunch box that comes free with the meal that can be reused or recycled.

These are two more great ideas to take my project. I’m particularly interested in the challenge of the children’s packaging. However after a talk with the tutors, It was suggested that maybe this issue has already be addressed. Which put the breaks on my project and left me lost for direction again! Who knew coming up with an idea for my Final Major Project would be so difficult. It’s not that I don’t have the ideas, It’s more of a case of other thinking the situation.

I was directed to walk around a supermarket and possibly look for problems in packaging I could fix, however after further research I decided that this is an idea I should abandon. Simply because packaging is AND isn’t an issue. Because the better the packaging, then the better life expectancy of the product, the less packaging then the less life of the product. Which means your either throwing away more packaging (which can mostly be recycled now) or your throwing away more food.
