Cut The Pie Identity Brief

Evaluation

These are the final slides of my group’s Presentation of our Cut The Pie Identity Re-brand of TLK, PAL and Design Buddies.

TLK, PAL and Design Buddies are activities and events that engage students to share, correspond and learn. Students can take what they need from all three that could help them in development of their work, finding a job in the industry or just friendly advice. Cut The Pie is where students take what they need: “Taking a slice” of the action (Or The Pie). It’s an inviting and fun name that would raise interest from students as to what it is, with a smile from the beginning. TLK, PAL and Design Buddies are activities that students should enjoy, and that’s what Cut The Pie has been designed to portray through it’s Re-branding elements e.g. The Name, the interactive promotion such as the stickers and the colour bright uplifting scheme.

The Colour Scheme was deliberately chosen to be the CMYK colours because of their brightness and ability to stand out from the rest as a collaboration. Research conducted by ‘Color Matters’, (a research and education firm specializing in colour), concludes that the ability of bright colors to grab a person’s attention may be a naturally programmed reaction.

Our main Font Choice for the logo was ‘Gill Sans’. When looking for a font we looked for one that was quite wide in letter size. That way letters such as the letter ‘C’ would almost be a complete circle. The reasoning for this is to keep a consistency of circular shapes throughout the Designs just like if all the pieces of pie were put together they’d make a circle. Also, when aligning the three words for the logo; Gill Sans seemed appropriate because the words lined up well.

Our overall Re-Branding package was designed to promote and get the word around about Cut The Pie; The Stickers could go everywhere, anyone with information at the events gets a Badge, Key Rings for Design Buddies keeps people in contact with each other, the humorous T-Shirts can be worn to create a union, the Flyer’s can be handed out as an introduction to what Cut The Pie really is and the Website would be there for anyone who needs a little bit of extra info but maybe is too shy to ask.

When we first came to together as a group, we instantly started brainstorming ideas for names of the Rebranding. We looked into words that describe best what TLK, PAL and Design Buddies are all about e.g Sharing. For further inspiration, we then looked up synonyms of ‘Sharing’ to extend our vocabulary for names. We struck gold when we found a description for ‘Sharing’ actually came up as ‘Cutting the Pie’. Because this was fairly lateral, we kept on brainstorming further, however kept on coming back to this one name.

Logo Ideas is something we took literally in visualising ‘Cut The Pie’. We drew pie chart shapes, slices of the pie as both a triangular shape and and actual pie peice. It was at this point that we decided to seperate and experiment with digitally creating a suitable logo. We met up the following morning of the second day and selected the logo because of it’s simplicity and modern style.

With the amount of time we had left, we then decided as a group that the most efficent way to work as a team  would to each take an element from the promotional package and creates some designs. Before doing so we made sure that all of us knew the kind of look we were going for so that our designs would be consistant.

Our pitch went really well, we decided that each of us would talk about our individual design which meant we all cooperated in presenting the work.

I thoroughly enjoyed this project and working with the third years. From the beginning it was obvious that we worked well as a team developing ideas together and working as a group to put together the Identity in such a short space of time. We all co-operated evenly in the design process to then present a very successful Pitch where we all talked about what we put into the Brand Identity. I’m proud of the outcome we created and wouldn’t change the Identity in any way
